Great review! Watching you explain the game, I think I would come to the exact same conclusion. Love the video game, but do I need the board game version…I’ll think about it lol.

Recently finished playing this with my family and it's the first time we've completed a legacy game with my daughter, loved it. Yeah it's not the most complex, or crunchy, or interesting or any of those other words that we band about, but it was good fun!

The price point isn't so bad if you have the players at your table that already play slay the spire in between negotiations of twilight imperium.

For this game to go from good to great, I recommend two things: The BIG EXPANSION that adds a completely silly difficulty level, and a lot of alcohol.

Get off the computer. Turns off StS steam. Takes out the board game.

Thoguh I do understand that there is a lot of plastic in miniature games, that's kind of the point, isn't it? Lots of board gamers who go into these kickstarters are also either miniature/ip collectors and/or miniature painters. Also, bashing a game you haven't yet played is something I don't particularly like when it's done. Actual gripes are fine to have, but with things you have actually experienced, no? When It's something you've seen from afar or is someone else's opinion(lot of efka vibes on the minis comments), it comes off a bit... badly, as in not really something genuine, just something you dread the thought of, but sure, whatever, let's tell everyone what we think might be true!(It might also not be!) Not here to defend bloodborne, as although I do enjoy the game, it has MANY flaws. But plastic isn't one of them, the sculpts are well made, interesting and cater to the target audience for these kind of mini games. My real gripe is with preconceptions we have but not tried and second-hand opinions seeping their way into what's being discussed and murking the point.

What you forgot to say is that you can still play it solo (or even play with multiple characters if its ypur thing) and you can even replicate the daily run (also, there are ACHIEVEMENTS! ❤️)

What id love to see, but would need to be fully implemented in the digital game as well, are modded characters

If Slay The Spire is still to expensive, it is on xbox game pass (if i remember correctly) and google play pass

I haven't played the Bloodborne board game, but i can fully recommend the Bloodborne CARD GAME. Its basically a deck building game but the "deck" is only about 10 cards

I'm in the (probably very limited) demographic of people who have played videogames since the 80s. Sadly, between work and gaming, I have various wrist and hand issues that now make videogaming not worth the pain. However, I got into boardgaming a few years back and, when they're well made, I love to play boardgame conversions of videogames. I recently received my copy of Slay the Spire and it's now set up on my dining table (where it takes up a surprising amount of space). I'm off to start learning how to play it right now. Wish me luck!

I got the chance to interview the lead designer of the board game for my podcast! The way he spoke about it cemented for me my choice to back it, and it made perfect Sense that the game turned out so well. The reverence he and the team have for the original and their dedication to making this more then "sts physically" but also give it a reason to exist set them up for a slam dunk. I'm thrilled that this was not only made, but was so impressively well done

When someone finds out I like games and asks me what my favorite is, an impossible question, this is the one I pick. It's so weird and funny and chaotic. Also, it has an _extremely_ high skill ceiling. If you play it every week instead of every year, you get to a point where someone getting pasted is pretty rare. The game's expansions are mostly about making the game harder, because if you've played the game enough that you feel like adding an expansion, you're probably not getting wrecked very often. The expansions sure fix _that_ glitch.

My favorite part was when John Company said "It's Company Time!" and businessed all over the place. In all seriousness though, I think getting a new player into an established group could work perfectly with the light roleplaying the game already encouraged. Just imagine it like the scene of any of those cutthroat business movies or TV shows with you giving some brief mentorship to the new blood before they start at the company.

Slay the Spire $114.99 with wonderful production and practical insert. SU&SD: "That's a lot of money. I just don't know how it justifies that price point." Blood on the Clocktower $148.99 with sub-par production. Also SU&SD: "Yes it's very expensive, yes it's kind of ugly, and yes there is an argument to be made that is perhaps too big. BUT if you care about this hobby, you won't be making that argument because this is everything that boardgames can be."

There is also a co-op mod for STS called spire with friends that I'll admit feel like the cod zombie kinda co-op but is still an option to have everyone climbing the spire while doing their own thing

I kickstart funded this as soon as i heard of it and, after receiving it recently, have spent three lovely evenings playing it with my friends. For a long time we've talked about playing board games together because we all like the idea of tabletop games, but this is the first one that has captured our collective attention so well. I highly recommend!

A good reason to get it, is for a friend who didn't wanna play the video game (for one reason or another), but who's favorite board game genera us co-op. Yea they loved it so much, they are going to buy a copy for thier collection

I think that it is malpractice that this review doesn't mention the digital game's mod Spire with Friends.

SPOILERS: I demonstrated this for some youths. I was not prepared when the story went to the BDSM club. Not what I had in mind. Also the Romeo and Juliet suicide was a bit grim.

To be fair, drawing comparisons of the price to the videogame might not be best, since the videogame is like, quite literally a steal. There's so much to do and experience and learn and master, and it being the price it is for what you get, without any discounts, is a steal. Especially when you compare that to current AAA games in the market right now.

I replaced the two 1-3 dice in Deep Sea Adventure with two standard 6 sided dice. That made the game way more enjoyable. It's still tough though.

The Bloodborne board game may need some work but the Bloodborne card game is pretty darn good

RPG's are about playing things you are not. Also you can engage in behaviors and choices you can't normally make in real life so it is a form of psychological release for some, and a chance to exercise your imagination. Sure you can play other species, as an Elf, believe or not is not a Race, rather it is a Species, just like Humans are not a Race, they too are a Species, or rather a Sub-Species of Hominins. We could call Demi-Humans as 'near-Human' or sub-species of Hominin. Whereas Humanoids, like Orcs, Hobgoblins, etc. are a completely different type of set of species, depending on the lore. In LOTR, Orcs are actually created as corrupted Elves, and are that worlds' version of 'Dark Elves', completely unlike the later improved version of true Dark Elves we find in ADnD, one of the future true innovations that expanded the core Fantasy Lore, so now we find Dark Elves, and variations on them, in many fantasy settings and games. Gary Gygax told the ghost of JJ Tolkien "I innovated what you did, your welcome my goodly sir'. JJ Tolkien's ghost responded with "you uncultured twit I am the now unliving embodiment of England's Mythic Lore so you can officially kiss my Eye of Sauron'. For those who don't know there is a real, but ignored history between LOTR and Dungeons and Dragons and a real cultural amnesia that many old school gamers are not aware of the massive influence LOTR and Middle Earth plays upon the earliest forms of Dungeons and Dragons via zero (0) DnD 0 edition. The old school gamer might not have any connection that this is in fact the case, but it is in fact the case. All of that was cleansed from the cultural memory for the most part, but a sliver survives. Yet, regardless of how JJ Tolkien's estate or ghost feels, Dark Elves, like many elements of Dungeons and Dragons Lore and collective monster and other elements did in fact expand and at time fundamentally improve modern Fantasy as genre, so rightly Gary Gygax can say to JJ Tolkien 'You are most respectfully welcome my goodly sir'. Alongside Robert E Howard, creator of Conan and other characters, but also many fundamental elements and tropes of Fantasy who was a contemporary for a time of JJ Tolkien, and along side that Howard Lovecraft, and we really we can expand to many other authors, all of whom collectively created the modern Fantasy genre as we know it.
